Salle Boisselot  |  The transcendental piano

MArch 2  |  The University of Edinburgh  |  2010

Despite being one of France’s largest cities Marseille lacks a symphonic concert hall. Salle Boisselot is therefore positioned in the city as a counterweight, relieving pressure on the crowded centre whilst enabling the full expression of an important strand of music. The site at Rue Jean-Jugan offers opportunities and challenges for the design, as it has to mediate noise, deal with uncertain structural ground, and respond to a fragmented site.
